You might have already got a hotel or an area in mind or you may be going with a completely open mind. In Bangkok alone, if you include B&Bs, hostels and hotels, not to mention the ones above bars you will find in excess of 1,700 options. Below are just 10 that might just take your fancy:
- BelAire Hotel Nana
When we think of hotels and areas in the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok one of the first areas that springs to mind is Nana. Located in Sukhumvit Soi 5, close to the Bumrungrad hospital and Nana Plaza, this contemporary hotel is ideal for business and leisure visitors. The interior is described as “creative and comfortable” and certainly cannot be criticised but it is the location that makes it most appealing to the majority of travellers.
- Shanghai Mansion (Chinatown)
The Shanghai Mansion which is located in Chinatown was recently voted the best value boutique hotel in Bangkok and it is not hard to realise why. As you enter the hotel you feel that you are moving into a world where the modern day and the 1930’s collided. Everything about the hotel has an almost romantic feel from the grand staircase to fish filled water garden not to mention the Red Rose Restaurant that brings the Jazz Age to Chinatown.
- Villa Phra Sumen Hotel
This hotel is located at 457 Phra Sumen Road, Bavorn Niwet in Phranakorn and is a relatively small hotel comprising of 29 room across 2 buildings. Situated in the heart of Old Bangkok, the first building overlooks a canal and decorated with antique furnishings and high ceilings whilst the second building is far more simply decorated. One of the highlights of the hotel is the excellent breakfast that you will be served in the morning.
- S33 Compact Hotel
The S33 Compact Hotel is located in Sukhumvit Soi 33 so is again a perfect location and therefore justifies its higher ranking on the list. The hotel is fully deserving of its 4 star rating and is everything that you would expect from a hotel in the heart of a capital city. The service is excellent and you will certainly have a relaxing stay if that is what you are looking for!
- Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort and Spa
The Anantara is located just outside the city in Thonburi and is quite simply a beautiful hotel with a tropical, relaxing atmosphere. Wherever you go in the hotel you will be surrounded by towering palms giving a real impression of being away from it all. The swimming pool and spa are both excellent and the hotel comes will all the amenities that you would expect plus a whole lot more. The hotel operates a free ferry service to the BTS Station at Saphan Taksin so getting to other parts of the city is very easy.
- Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit
There are many fantastic hotels in the Sukhumvit area but the Sheraton Grande makes our list due to the fact that it is an oasis in the very heart of the city. It is hard to single out many things of specific quality in the Sheraton as everything is of such a high quality but perhaps the fact that it has direct access to the BTS Skytrain at Asoke is perhaps one of the major attractions.
- The Mandarin Oriental
The original structure of the Mandarin Hotel dates back to 1879 when in was opened as The Oriental. It has hosted stars of the silver screen including Sean Connery, Royalty in the form of Prince Charles and Princess Diana and former US Presidents such as Richard Nixon. The hotel is located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River every close to the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. The service is quite simply magnificent and on a par with any of the best hotels in Bangkok.
- The Peninsula, Bangkok
The Peninsula Bangkok sits right on the banks of the Chao Phraya River and is everything that you would expect from a hotel bearing the Peninsula Hotel name. It almost looks across the river directly towards the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. There is a complimentary ferry service on hand to take you to the Palace and other areas of the city so basically nothing is too much trouble or too far away. A nice touch is that you will be picked up from the airport in one of the hotels fleet of Rolls Royces.
- Banyan Tree
The Banyan Tree is located on South Sathorn Road in the heart of the business district of Bangkok. The hotel oozes quality from the pool area, the spas and restaurants right through to the quality of the service that you will receive. The real highlight about this hotel is the rooftop restaurant area when you can enjoy a superb meal or perhaps just a few drinks looking back across the city or across to the quieter life across the other side of the river, that is surprisingly just a short distance away.
- Ariyasomvilla
The Ariyasomvilla Hotel is not an elegant hotel nor is it excessively large but it makes it to the top of the list for the simple fact that it is a quality, romantic setting with colonial architecture. The main part of the hotel dates back to 1942 and the rest of the hotel, although only opened in 2008 follows pretty much the same theme in terms of the decorations and elegance.
The hotel has a fantastic pool area that is surrounded by lush gardens that are a welcome change to bustling Bangkok streets that are just outside of the hotels main gates. It is perfectly located on Soi 1, Sukhumvit Road so access to the BTS is very straightforward making other areas of the city easily accessible.
